How to Write an Instagram Bio That Brings In Dream Clients

Are you staring at your Instagram bio, wondering what on earth you’re going to write there?

Or maybe you did write something, and it looks a little like… 

“Cat Mom 😺 Coffee Lover ☕ Graphic Designer 🖥️”

As cute as that is… it’s not doing you any favours. 

Many entrepreneurs struggle with how to write their Instagram bio, so they end up writing it like a mini autobiography. The problem is that it becomes all about YOU. It doesn’t do anything to convince a total stranger that your services can actually help them. 

When someone clicks on your profile, you have 2.5 seconds to answer one silent question: 

Is this person and their services right for me?

If you’re not answering their question quickly, they’ll leave. Unfortunately, that means adding ‘cat mom’ to your Instagram bio isn’t gonna cut it. 

That’s why learning how to write an Instagram bio the right way matters soooo much for service-based businesses. In fact, one of my clients changed just one line in her Instagram bio and immediately doubled her sales overnight! (I pinky-promise that’s NOT clickbait!)

In this post, I’ll tell you EXACTLY what change my client made to her Instagram bio. Then, we’ll talk about why this small change worked from a marketing psychology perspective, how to optimize your Instagram profile as well, and what it takes to truly make sales directly from Instagram.

So, let’s talk about that single line change my client made to her Instagram bio. 

At the time, I had just brought back an old training of mine called “How to Look Legit AF on Instagram.” It’s all about how to showcase your authority and build a presence that attracts people to your content on Instagram in a way that feels good.  

One of the tricks in this training teaches how to optimize your Instagram profile. My client applied this trick to her bio, and the next day I got this message from her:

“Jenna, all I did was change one line of my bio, and last night we made DOUBLE the sales we normally make in a day!”

Now, can we prove with certainty that this one change caused the sales? Not exactly. But the timing is pretty hard to argue with… especially when we DO know she basically added a selling superpower into her bio. 

And that he secret selling sauce in this one line was SOCIAL PROOF.

Social Proof and Why You NEED it in Your Instagram Bio

Social proof is marketing psychology at its finest, and you’re probably already seeing it in your everyday life: 

It’s the sticker on the cover of a book that says Top 10 New York Times Bestseller. That MUST mean it’s a good book, right? You should buy it too and give it a read. 

It’s the client testimonials you see from businesses popping up in your Instagram feed. 

It’s the ticker flashing at the bottom of a website showing every time someone makes a purchase. Look at all these people buying this course! *enters credit card numbers*  

That’s all social proof, and it is very convincing. 

Social proof is the idea that people trust what other people already trust. When we see the masses running to do something, our brains assume it must be a safe or smart decision. 

So, what exactly did my client add to her Instagram bio? 

Just one simple line: “Join 15k+ families.”

Why Did This Line Make Such a Difference in Her Instagram Bio?

At first glance, “Join 15k+ families” probably doesn’t really seem like that big a deal. 

But in less than 20 characters, this one line combined two powerful psychological triggers. 

First, the number. 

Numbers are a quick way to add a crazy amount of credibility FAST. (We’ll talk more on the power of numbers in just a sec). Using “15k+” isn’t random. It’s telling the reader that more than 15,000 families have already bought her product. 

Next, the language. 

There’s feeling in the words “join” and “families.” They give off community vibes and warm + fuzzy feelings of belonging. 

When put together, not only is her Instagram bio working to prove she’s an authority in her area, but it also feels like a gentle invitation. Because you’re not just buying a product, you’re joining a whole group of other families just like you, led by a trusted expert.

Now that you see why this line worked, let’s talk about how to write an Instagram bio that includes social proof.

Social Proof Lines to Add for Instagram Bio Optimization 

When you’re trying to figure out how to optimize your Instagram profile, social proof should always be part of the strategy. 

These small but mighty lines show visitors that your work is already trusted by others. 

Here are two types of social proof lines you can add to optimize your Instagram bio. 

Instagram Bio Lines That Show Volume

An easy way to add social proof to your Instagram bio is to follow in my client’s footsteps and add numbers to your profile. 

Our brains are psychologically geared to gravitate toward the masses. We’re more inclined to trust something or someone when we can see that a high volume of people already put their trust in it. 

Numbers show that volume. They show the indisputable metrics of just how many people you’ve helped or products you’ve sold. 

Basically, they show exactly how much you’ve accomplished.

Instead of making vague claims like “I help clients get results,” Instagram bio lines that include numbers prove that what you do actually works. 

Here are a few examples of track-record lines you could add to your Instagram bio:

  • 200 clients served
  • Over $1M earned for our clients
  • Helped 12 runners complete their first marathon
  • Attended 100+ births 
  • 400K followers on TikTok
  • 90% client retention rate
  • Top 5% on BetterHelp
  • 50 five-star reviews

Adding just one line like these can do wonders to have your Instagram bio instantly SHOW visitors the amazing results you deliver. 

Instagram Bio Optimization That Shows Your Authority

Now, you might be thinking… “Jenna, I just started. I don’t have big numbers to show yet.” 

Don’t worry. You don’t NEED massive stats to add social proof to your Instagram bio. You just need one clear line that shows you know what you’re doing. 

Instead of highlighting volume, reference your experience, credentials, or recognition you’ve received. These still build trust and help make people feel comfortable working with you.

All of these show your credibility and experience even if you don’t have the numbers to back it up (yet!).
